Chapter Preview

I've talked a lot about what the first page of each chapter looks like. I present a root, show its relations to English and other languages- using color coding to draw attention to their shared heritage. корот- short is a fun example because English, Germanic languages and Romance languages all still have related words. Here's a sneak peak at the etymology chapter- notice the colors to help you see word relations. And the root is always in bold, no matter what language.

What I do next is what I've already shown several times- a layout of the main stems built from this root. Usually prefixes, sometimes suffixes. For корот- there aren't that many.

And then, finally, the chapter closes with the largest part- an organized, formatted wordlist, of all the most important words for this root. The top 20% words that are most important for a beginner to know, are given stars (and English translationed boldened) so you know where to focus first. Formatting is done so the root jumps out at you as visible, and the color scheme from the etymology page is kept, as another aid for you to extract and see roots out of the text. The spoken stress is marked with the accent mark '.

And, each chapter will also have some of the most important collocations (groupings of words) that are helpful for that root. Ready-to-go units that often travel together and will build up your vocabulary fast- and help you hook the root's meaning into your brain.
